Sony today took to Twitter to announce that it has started rolling out the Android 4.4.4 update for the Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and the Tablet Z.

The update mainly brings some much-needed bug-fixes including an improved battery life and other improvements to Email, Wi-Fi and Calendar.

The Android 4.4 update landed on these devices back in May, but ended up introducing a terrible battery drain bug especially on the Xperia Z. Sony had promised a fix for the battery drain soon after rolling out the update but ended up taking its own sweet time.

The official change-log of the update from Sony is as follows:

  • Upgrade to Android 4.4.4
  • Better battery performance in some background applications
  • Email stability & performance enhanced
  • General improvements to MMS, Calendar, Wifi, Contacts & More
  • All of our latest bug fixes and enhancements

Surprisingly, Sony’s flagship for the first half of 2014 — the Xperia Z2 — is the only high-end Xperia device in Sony’s line-up that is still running on Android 4.4.2 KitKat.
