Sony took 50 minutes to announce what everyone pretty much already knew what was going to be announced: The Xperia Z1 and two soup can cameras that strap to the back of your phone known as the DSC-QX100 and DSC-QX10. Focusing on the phone for the time being, it has a 5 inch 1080p display that uses the same display technology that’s in the Xperia Z Ultra. It’s called “TRILUMINOS”. There’s also a Snapdragon 800 under the hood, 2 GB of RAM, a 20.7 MP camera, and a massive 3,000 mAh battery. Specs such as size and weight aren’t up yet.
Moving on to the DSC-QX100 and DSC-QX10, the latter is an 18.2 megapixel camera with 10x optical zoom. The former on the other hand, the QX100, that’s the crazy one. It has a full one inch sensor and 3.6x optical zoom. Both have WiFi and NFC, both have optical image stabilization. Both take 1440×1080 30 frame per second video.
Now the two questions you care about: When will these things come out and how much will they cost? The Z1 will launch this month, and it’s going to come in at around 650 Euros, which isn’t surprising at all. The cameras will also be out this month, but no prices have been revealed.
The second I know more, I’ll let you know.
Update: MSRP of the QX10 is $250 (black and white), QX100 is $500 (black only).
