Sony launches dedicated PlayStation Messages app on the Play Store

Sony thinks chatting with your buddies is as important as actually gaming on your PlayStation, as the company has launched the PlayStation Messages app as a dedicated messaging client for PSN users on the Play Store.

The messaging functionality has been cut out of the official PlayStation app, so anyone wishing to chat with their PSN friends will need to keep both apps installed on their smartphone or tablet. PlayStation Messages supports all the messaging features – you can do regular chats (text and voice) with friends and groups, see what your friends are playing, share photos and PlayStation stickers, and search for/add new friends.

PlayStation Messages follows Google’s Material Design guidelines; there are a few low-resolution elements here and there but none of it is bad enough to be an eyesore. Grab the app from the Play Store, where you will also find a new version of the regular PlayStation app without the messaging feature.
