After Google launched Android 9.0 Pie to its lineup of devices, Android manufacturers are starting to unveil which of their own handsets will be getting the new software as well.
We have already seen HTC unveil its own handful of smartphones that will be getting the Pie update at some point in the future. And Motorola recently revealed quite a few Moto-branded handsets will eating Pie (hopefully) before the end of 2018. Now it’s Sony’s turn.
The house that built the Xperia brand has revealed that close to a dozen handsets are planning for the Android Pie update, with the rollout starting in November. The Xperia XZ2, Xperia XZ2 Premium, Xperia XZ2 Compact, Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia XZ1, and the Xperia XZ1 Compact will be first up with that November timeline.
After that, the Xperia XA2, Xperia XA2 Ultra, and Xperia XA2 Plus will be getting the Android 9.0 Pie update as well, but that rollout begins sometime in the early stages of 2019. Sony didn’t specifically nail down the rollout date, or month, for these devices.
“We always aim for the quickest possible upgrade rollout from the time Google makes its announcement to when it reaches your smartphone. And it’s essential that Sony engineers have the time to implement all our feature upgrades and test devices to meet our high quality standards.”
That’s not a long wait, so it’s good to have something to look forward to if you own one of these smartphones.
