At their CES press conference in Las Vegas, Sony today announced an updated version of their SmartWatch 3 with a stainless steel band. The company had initially unveiled the watch last year in Autumn with a plastic band.
The specs of the steel edition SmartWatch 3 remains the same as before, which includes a 1.6-inch 320 x 320 resolution Transflective LCD display, an IP68 rating, built-in GPS module, and a microUSB port. The watch is slated to be available from February 2015″ though Sony did not mention anything about its pricing.
Aside from the steel band, Sony also announced a new holder for the watch that will allow users to use any standard 24mm watch strap of their liking. The holder will be available from “early part of 2015.”
Additionally, Sony also announced that it is partnering with the developers of Golfshit and iFit — who are already harnessing the standalone Android Wear capabilities of its SmartWatch — and will be bundling premium versions of their apps from January out of the box.
Lastly, the company opened up APIs to its Lifelog service and announced a web portal for it where users can see a quick overview of their daily recorded activities.
