Sony may not be bringing a flagship Xperia device to Mobile World Congress next week, but the Japanese company will have some new handsets to show off to the media. Just two weeks after announcing the Xperia E4, Sony today unveiled the €129 (approx. $145) Xperia E4g.
The Xperia E4g is essentially the same as the Xperia E4; it has the same 5-inch qHD display, the same quad-core MediaTek processor, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of internal storage. It also has the same 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a 2,300mAh battery.
The only difference between the two is the Xperia E4g also boasts super-speedy 4G LTE connectivity for those who want it, whereas the original Xperia E4 was restricted to 3G, HSPA+ connectivity only.
The Xperia E4 is Sony’s answer to more affordable handsets like the Moto G, which has become Motorola’s best-selling smartphone, so it makes sense that Sony follows a similar sales model — offering 4G connectivity at a premium for those who really want it.
The Xperia E4g will be available in black and white, and it’ll go on sale in April priced at €129 ($145). Sony hasn’t confirmed launch markets yet, but the fact that it is announcing prices in Euros suggests it will pop up in Europe first.
