As per some internal documents received by 9to5Google, Google is getting ready to unveil the second generation Chromecast later this month. The new Chromecast will come with faster Wi-Fi, a brand-new design, and some new features.

The new design of the second-generation Chromecast is a huge departure from the “dongle” like look of the existing device. Google will also be offering the new Chromecast in three different colors: yellow, black, and red. The device will also feature a 3.5mm audio jack for more connectivity options.

The new Chromecast will feature content feeds that will presumably make it possible to view feeds from your different social media accounts and/or websites when the device is in screensaver mode.

Thanks to the faster Wi-Fi, which should presumably be Wi-Fi ac, the new Chromecast will feature “Fast Play”. While it is not clear what this feature does, its name does indicate that it will make it possible to playback cast content in a jiffy. Currently, playing back a cast a content on the Chromecast requires a lot of time, even though the device is already connected to it.

Additionally, the new Chromecast will also feature “Chromecast Audio” that allows the device to be connected directly to speakers through a 3.5mm audio cable for “high-quality” audio playback. It will have features like multi-room support, ability to mirror sound from your Android or Chrome device, and more.

Google will be unveiling the new Chromecast at its September 29th event. The device will be priced similar to the existing generation Chromecast and will be available in 1o countries initially. The company is also rumored to announce two new Nexus handsets — one from LG and one from Huawei — at the same event, along with the final release of Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
