Why trust Greenbot
Back in July, Samsung announced that they’re going to hold their very first developer focused event in San Francisco on October 27th. Today, the South Korea handset maker is announcing that a similar event will also be held across the pond, on November 18th, in London.
What sort of things can you expect to see and hear at both these events? Samsung specifically highlighted these three things. One, the Samsung SDKs. Not just the SDK for their phones, but they say they also have SDKs for in-app purchases and Smart Televisions. Two, Tizen, both native code and web APIs. Good luck trying to launch a new operating system, Samsung, because you’re going to need it. And finally three, they’re offering “opportunities to work with Samsung including Samsung Hub, Samsung Wallet, Hyper Local Content and enterprise solutions.”
Why is Samsung doing this? Take a step back and look at another smartphone OS, Windows Phone. No one in their right mind would buy an HTC or a Samsung Windows Phone, because Nokia is the company that bundles a huge amount of value added software on top. Samsung wants to do the same thing.
And think, if you’re a small company that has an attractive app or service, wouldn’t you want your work to be preinstalled on the hundreds of millions of Android phones Samsung ships every year?
