Android Wear might be the future of wearables and smartwatches but Samsung is still going to try its luck with Tizen. The company has just announced another Tizen based smartwatch with a curved design – -the Gear S.

The Gear S comes with a 2-inch curved circular AMOLED display and even features a dedicated SIM card slot for 3G connectivity. Other connectivity options include Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Under the hood of the watch is a 1GHz processor, 512MB RAM and a 300mAh battery.

Samsung says that the curved design of the Gear S makes sure that it fits comfortably around the contours of the users’ wrist. Thanks to its dedicated 3G SIM card slot and other connectivity options, the Gear S allows users to stay up to date with seamless notifications from social networks, calendars and applications even when they are not in the vicinity of their phone.

The smartwatch also features a keyboard allowing users to instantly reply to their urgent messages and emails. If needed, the watch can also be used to make calls by the user.

If you have not already guessed it, the Gear S is more of a miniscule phone for your wrist running Tizen rather than a smartwatch. The device will be available in most of the key markets from October of this year.
