Samsung today added two new smartphones to its lineup called Galaxy On5 and Galaxy On7, and they represent a new take on budget Androids. Both devices take design cues from Samsung’s latest flagships, but they’re very different on the inside.
Samsung hasn’t officially announced these handsets yet, but both devices were made available to purchase from the company’s online store for China earlier today. Strangely, Samsung has only published a specifications sheet for the On7 so far.
In addition to a 5.5-inch display with 720p resolution, the On7 has a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 1.5GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage. Unlike Samsung’s latest handsets, it also boasts a microSD card slot, plus a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, a 3,000mAh battery, and all of the connectivity options you would expect from a modern smartphone — including 3G and 4G, Bluetooth 4.1, and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n.
It’s unclear why Samsung hasn’t posted specifications for the On5 yet, but we can see from the image above that it’s clearly smaller than the On7. It may well have similar internals with a smaller screen, but we’ll find out more when Samsung makes the On5 official.
We should also find out whether the On5 and On7 will be available outside of China then, too — and how much they’ll cost.
