Picture a Galaxy S4 in your mind. Now take out all the awesome components and replace them with three year old chips that Samsung probably has laying around on one of their factory floors. That’s the Galaxy Grand Neo. You’re looking at a 5.0 inch 800 x 480 pixel resolution screen, quad core (likely ARM Cortex A7) processor, 1 GB of RAM, 5 megapixel camera, and 21 megabit per second 3G connectivity. Samsung thinks you’ll gladly buy those specs for 260 Euros.
Should you? Absolutely not. The Motorola Moto G has a sharper 720p screen, and pretty much the same internals, all for around 200 Euros depending on the market you’re in. Hell, if you’re in the UK, you can even get a Moto G for less than 150 Euros. Oh and by the way, the Moto G will probably perform far better than the Grand Neo because it’s running bone stock Android.
Who will buy the Grand Neo? People who want a phone with a big screen, but don’t want to spend a lot of money. If all you want to do is watch YouTube videos and the files you illegally downloaded from The Pirate Bay, the Grand Neo should be right up your alley. But then again, if you really want a media consumption device, why not pick up something like the Galaxy Tab 3? Those can be had for 150 Euros or less and have an even larger 7.0 inch screen.
Anyway, I digress. Grand Neo for 260 Euros? No. Stay away.
