Note 7 Explodes in Australia

With Galaxy Note 7 units exploding worldwide almost every other day, Samsung is urging Note 7 customers to “immediately” switch off their device and submit it to the company for a replacement device.

Samsung issued a global recall of the Galaxy Note 7 more than a week ago. The recall was voluntary, but Samsung is urging all customers to get their Note 7 replaced. Since Samsung’s recall announcement, an exploding Galaxy Note 7 unit led to a family’s jeep in St. Petersburg being burnt.

“Our number one priority is the safety of our customers. We are asking users to power down their Galaxy Note7s and exchange them as soon as possible,” says DJ Koh, President of Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics.“We are expediting replacement devices so that they can be provided through the exchange program as conveniently as possible and in compliance with related regulations. We sincerely thank our customers for their understanding and patience.”

All major airlines and aviation bodies across the world have also banned customers from flying with the Galaxy Note 7 in their checked-in luggage. They have also requested flyers to not use or charge the phone during a flight.

Samsung is also offering customers who hand in their Note 7 a loaner Galaxy J1 unit. In some countries, customers are getting to keep the J1 unit. Samsung is likely to start offering replacement Galaxy Note 7 units to customers from early next week in selected markets.
