Besides the Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Note Edge, Samsung also unveiled a new wearable headset — the Gear VR Innovator Edition. The mobile based virtual reality headset provides an immersive new experience by using the Galaxy Note 4 as its primary processing device.

The Gear VR is a result of Samsung working closely with Oculus, which was recently acquired by Facebook for $2 billion. The virtual reality headset features a 5.7-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display of the Galaxy Note 4 to provide a 360-degree 3D viewing experience.

“Samsung Gear VR Innovator’s Edition goes far beyond expectations of how mobile technology can be used to consume content, and is a powerful representation of the progressive innovation of the Gear series,” said JK Shin, President and CEO of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics. “We are pleased to have partnered with Oculus VR to bring this incredibly immersive mobile content experience to consumers.”

The Gear VR is lightweight and completely wireless, which means that it can be used without being tethered to a power socket or a computer. Samsung has also teamed up with “top-tier” content creators and will be providing a wide range of film, gaming, 360 degree video and experimental content to Gear VR owners.

Samsung’s latest wearable will be available in Frost White via the company’s online stores and selected carriers by the end of this year.
