Samsung today officially unveiled its latest smartwatch, the Gear S2, after teasing it multiple times over the last few weeks. The smartwatch comes with a circular display and will be available in two different variants: Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic.
The former is meant for those who are always on-the-go and features a modern design, while the latter has a timeless classic design and comes in an elegant black finish with a genuine leather band.
The smartwatch also comes with a rotating bezel, and sports a Home and Back button on its right side. Both variants of the Gear S2 come with a circular 1.2-inch display with a resolution of 360 x 360. Under the hood, it is powered by a 1GHz dual core processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB storage space and sports connectivity options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC. The smartwatch also comes with an accelerometer, gyroscope, heart rate sensor, ambient light sensor, a barometer, and has an IP68 certification.
Samsung will also be offering a 3G variant of the Gear S2 that features an e-SIM with voice calling capability. While the normal Gear S2 comes with a 250mAh battery, the Gear S2 classic features a 300mAh battery, which Samsung says is enough to power the smartwatch for two days.
As for the software, the Gear S2 runs on Samsung’s own Tizen OS. Samsung has teamed up with a lot of developers and will be offering a range of apps and watch faces for the smartwatch when it goes on sale. The Gear S2 will be available in Dark Gray and Silver colors, while the Gear S2 classic will only be available in Black.
