Following on Apple’s footsteps, Samsung will be launching its own leasing program for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge in its home market, South Korea, when the handsets go on sale there on March 11.

The company will be offering the leasing program through its chain of Samsung Digital Plaza retail stores in South Korea, and it will not be available through carrier stores in the country. The handsets, however, can be purchased to work on all the three major carriers in the South Korea: SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus.

Just like Apple’s iPhone upgrade program, users will be required to sign a 24-month contract with Samsung that will see them paying monthly instalments to the company. They can then upgrade to the successor of Galaxy S7 next year without paying anything. Samsung will also be partnering with Samsung Card, its own credit card company, for automatic deduction of monthly instalments.

Samsung will start accepting pre-orders for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge in South Korea from March 4, with the phone scheduled to go on sale from March 11.

Samsung has also launched a similar leasing program in the United Kingdom, though it has not yet provided relevant details about it. Sprint is also offering a similar leasing program for its customers in the United States who purchase the Galaxy S7 through it.

Do you think Samsung’s Galaxy leasing program is interesting? Or are you happy buying the smartphone directly from a retail store unlocked or from your carrier?
