America may be a country of less than 400 million people, making them smaller than the European Union, and far smaller than countries like China and India, but man, people in the United States sure do love to buy stuff. Lots of it too. This, according to The Korea Times, is why Samsung wants to take their relationship with Best Buy to another level.
Best Buy, in case you’re not familiar with the company, is a consumer electronics retail chain. If you need a cable, if you need a television, if you need a dishwasher, you can go to Best Buy and you’re pretty much guaranteed to find it there. Never mind that you can probably find those items cheaper if you shop on Amazon, people go to Best Buy often just to browse. I know I do. Earlier this year, Samsung partnered with Best Buy to setup mini-Samsung stores inside 1,400+ stores. Think of it like a three meter by three meter chunk of floor space with more Samsung propaganda than you’ll see in a South Korean tech magazine.
Apparently this isn’t enough for Samsung. They want more. So much so that they want to buy a stake in Best Buy. This makes perfect sense when you consider that Apple already has tons of stores in the US, stores that would take Samsung ages to build. So why not just work together with an established player?
This is all speculation, of course, but I’m not going to be surprised if a press release drops.
