Ahead of the official unveiling of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, Samsung has started the mass production of its curved AMOLED display panel at its Asan plant in South Chungcheong.
The company is reportedly planning to produce 9 million curved 5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED panels for the Galaxy S7 edge to make sure that there are no supply issues. At their full capacity and maximum yield, Samsung’s OLED lines in its Asan plant can produce up to 9 million units per month. Even factoring in some quality and defective panels, the company should be easily able to manufacture upwards of 8 million curved AMOLED panels every month.
Last year, Samsung had under estimated the demand for the Galaxy S6 edge leading to supply issues, which thereby affected the sales of the handset.
Since Samsung is expected to aggressively launch the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge in most of the key markets by March 11, it makes sense for the company to start mass production of display panels for the Galaxy S7 edge and the Galaxy S7 so as to make sure that there are no supply issues when the handsets are launched.
