According to the Taiwanese supply chain and occasional rumor mongering website DigiTimes, Samsung will ship approximately 10 million Galaxy S4 units within the first 30 days of the product being on store shelves. By the end of the second quarter, otherwise known as the end of June, that number will hit 30 million. The site says Samsung has a total of eight factories making phones, so if there are any problems in one factory, production can be increased at any of the remaining others.

How these shipment numbers compare to the GS3? That phone hit 9 million pre-orders, so for Samsung to ship 10 million GS4 units in one month sounds like a total walk in the park. In fact, I’d go so far as to say it’s too low of a number.

And as for the 30 million figure, the GS3 hit 20 million sales in 100 days. Let’s assume for a moment that the GS4 ships on May 1st, meaning it’ll be on sale for just 60 days of Q2 instead of the regular 90 days. For Samsung to hit 30 million by the end of June, that’s half a million units shipped a day. The GS3 did 200,000 units a day, which is less than half.

That’s a much harder target, and I’m having doubts about them reaching it. Best case scenario, the GS4 sells as twice the rate of the GS3, which means 24 million units by the end of Q2. Anything higher is just obscene levels of growth.
