Samsung Safety Screen

Samsung has launched an app that gives mothers around the world some respite. Instead of having to scream at children to pry them away from ‘That darn Nintendo thing on the phone.’, mothers can now rely on Safety Screen. Available for all Android devices via the Google Play store and Samsung Galaxy store, this app monitors the viewing distance your child is keeping from the screen of the device and helps correct the same.

Safety Screen runs in the background and can be password protected by parents. Once set-up, it acts as a monitoring system that gives a friendly animated pop-up when your child is holding the screen too close to their face. It then proceeds to lock the device which can then only be unlocked by moving the screen a considerable distance away.

The app works by employing an advanced facial recognition software that monitors the users face so as to prevent the screen from being held too close. This allows it to run on most Android devices and does not require any special hardware as long as there is a front facing camera.
