Samsung announced a fitness accessory called the S Band early last year along with the Galaxy S4. This companion accessory however, never reached the markets and mysteriously went off the radar. But a new leak has now revealed that this fitness band might be making a comeback soon to take on the likes of Fitbit, Nike FuelBand and Jawbone Up.
According to a sales slides accessed by Sam Mobile, this could work just like any fitness accessory, but with the added perk of notifying users whenever they receive a message or a call. This is something many third party fitness accessories cannot do, so the S Band clearly has an advantage here. Unfortunately though, it seems like this will remain an exclusive to Samsung device owners, much like the Gear series of smartwatches.
Pairing of data is done between the device and the S Health app using Bluetooth on your Samsung device, just like the Gear line. But since this doesn’t come with a display of its own, users will have to rely on their phones to track calories burnt, steps taken etc.
The S Band can also monitor a user’s sleep patterns much like a conventional fitness accessory. Samsung will also sell four user changeable straps in addition to the standard black strap that comes with the device.
Since this is just a leak, there’s no word on availability or pricing as of now. But we hope to have more information in the coming weeks.
