Samsung today unveiled a new warranty program for selected Galaxy and Note series of devices — dubbed the Samsung Protection Plus Mobile Elite. Under this new warranty scheme, the company will provide you with coverage for a wide array of damages including accidental, electrical and mechanical failures.
Under the Protection Plus Mobile Elite program, the warranty of your Samsung device will be extended to two years with the company promising to offer you a replacement device within two working days. Sadly, all these benefits do come at a steep price of $99 for Galaxy S5 and S4 owners, and $129 for Note 3 and 4 owners. At the moment, Samsung does not support any of its other tablets or handsets under this scheme.
The company has also limited the liability to a total of three replacement working devices during a period of 24 months — which should be more than enough for the average joe unless you have butterfingers and are prone to dropping your phone every other day. Samsung will also charge a service fee of $75 if you own a Galaxy device or $95 for a Galaxy Note before it sends you a replacement device.
The program is also only available to Galaxy and Note owners in the United States.
While not exactly cheap, Samsung’s Protection Plus Mobile Elite makes sense if you keep dropping and breaking your phone.
