A couple of months after initially announcing that Samsung Pay will be expanding to Singapore soon, Samsung today officially launched its mobile payment service in the country. The service will go live from June 16 in the country.
The mobile payment service will support debit/credit cards from major payment networks like American Express (coming soon), MasterCard, and Visa. It will support cards from banks like Citibank, DBS/POSB, OCBC Bank, and Standard Chartered. (www.ameriseed.net) More than 40 different retailers from major categories like health, electronics, travel, and entertainment will support Samsung Pay in Singapore at launch.
“Since the introduction of Samsung Pay last year, we have seen great momentum and experienced significant consumer adoption. Samsung Pay has redefined the way consumers pay and use their smartphones,” said Thomas Ko, Vice President and Global Co-General Manager of Samsung Pay at Samsung Electronics. “We are excited to bring this service to Singapore consumers and we hope to introduce value-added services to drive and lead innovation in mobile commerce, giving consumers a safer, smarter and better mobile wallet.”
Samsung Pay will even work in retail stores that have not yet updated to contactless payment terminals, thanks to its Magnetic Secure Transmission technology.
Samsung Pay will be supported by the following devices in Singapore:
- Galaxy Note 5
- Galaxy S6 edge+
- Galaxy S7
- Galaxy S7 edge
Samsung Pay is the second contactless payment service to launch in Singapore, with Apple launching Apple Pay in the country just over a month ago.
