Samsung Pay

On September 28 of this year, Samsung Pay officially launched in the United States with the support of major credit card companies, but with a very limited number of U.S.-based banks on board.

As it stands right now, Samsung Pay is supported by only a small amount of even the major banks in the United States, a list that includes Citi, U.S. Bank, and Bank of America. However, the manufacturer behind the Galaxy S and Note flagship devices has confirmed that one more bank has officially added support for Samsung Pay: Chase Bank.

Samsung Pay is supported by Visa, MasterCard, and American Express, which has the major credit cards covered for the majority of Samsung Pay users. However, to get debit cards supported by the mobile payments option, Samsung has to earn acceptance from the banks that offer them, card issuer notwithstanding. As such, the company essentially has to go one-by-one, but one can imagine that much bigger announcements are coming down the pipe at some point.

Samsung Pay has been gaining adoption from a variety of places in the United States, including Verizon Wireless, which officially launched support at the tail-end of October. The mobile payment option is only available on Samsung’s Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6 edge+, and Galaxy Note 5 at this time, but new handsets should support the option in the future as well.
