Over the last several weeks, Samsung’s unofficial Galaxy S7 Active has been popping up out in the wild, and even had its specs sheet leaked before Samsung could get around to announcing the handset.
But now the wait is over, because Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy S7 Active for AT&T. The long-running lineup of devices continues to promote the rugged style, with the device built with a shatter-resistant design. The announcement says that the device’s screen can withstand a fall from up to five feet. It also measures in at 5.1 inches. It is also an IP68-rated device, which means it can withstand being submerged in up to 5 feet of water for up to 30 minutes. The body is rated at MIL STD-810G, which means it can withstand dust, salt, fog, extreme temperatures, and more.
The other big improvement for the Galaxy S7 Active is the battery, which is measured in at 4000mAh. Compare that to the 3000mAh battery in the Galaxy S7.
One of the other new features is the Activity Button, which will launch Samsung’s new Activity Zone outdoor-themed feature. Or that button can be reprogramed to launch your favorite app instead.
The aforementioned Super AMOLED 5.1-inch display has a resolution of 2560×1440, and there’s a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor under the hood. There’s 32GB of built-in storage, support for a microSD card, and 4GB of RAM. On the back there’s a 12MP camera, and on the front a 5-megapixel shooter. The Galaxy S7 Active is running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box.
The Galaxy S7 Active launches on Friday, June 10. AT&T says pricing begins at $0 down and followed by 30 monthly payments of $26.50 with AT&T Next. The AT&T Next Every Year option means a customer will pay $0 down and 24 monthly payments of $33.13 per month. There’s a Sandy Gold, Titanium Gray, and Camo Green.
