Samsung has launched a special upgrade program in South Korea, its home market, where it will be offering customers who ‘downgrade’ to the Galaxy S7 or S7 edge from their recalled Galaxy Note 7 a discount when they purchase the Galaxy S8 or Galaxy Note 8 next year. A Samsung spokesperson said that this upgrade program from the company is aimed at “lightening the burden” on frustrated and disappointed Galaxy Note 7 owners.
Galaxy Note 7 customers will have to pay about half the price for their replacement Galaxy S7 or S7 edge for the time being, and next year when Samsung launches the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8, customers can exchange their replacement units for it. Samsung is expected to release the Galaxy S8 in February or March next year, with the Galaxy Note 8 being launched sometime in August.
Samsung says that all Note 7 customers who have already exchanged their device in favor of a S7 or S7 edge can still apply to be a part of the program. The company is also expected to announce a similar program in other key markets of the world.
It was earlier believed that Samsung would completely kill its Note lineup post the Note 7 fiasco, but it looks like the company will not take such a drastic step.
