Think flip phones are dead? Think again. Samsung has unveiled a new high-end flip phone in China called the Samsung W2017. Successor to the W2016 flip phone which the Korean company released last year, the W2017 features a 4.2-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display, both on its external and internal clamshell.
The handset is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipset clocked at 2.15GHz, 4GB RAM, and 64GB of storage with microSD card slot. It also features a 12MP f/1.9 shooter at its rear that is capable of recording 4K videos. (www.almostthererescue.org) The front houses a 5MP selfie snapper.
The 15.8mm thick handset weighs 208g thanks to its metallic design and a 2300mAh battery. Other notable features include a fingerprint sensor, support for fast wireless charging, Always On Display, 4G/LTE connectivity, and Samsung Pay support.
Samsung will be releasing the W2017 flip phone in China soon. While unconfirmed, the handset will reportedly be priced around 20,000 yuan which roughly translates to $20,000. Given its high price and limited demand, it is unlikely that we will see Samsung launch the W2017 clamshell phone outside of China.
Will you buy a high-end clamshell phone like the Samsung W2017 if it is released in your market?
