Samsung’s Good Lock app is bringing lock-screen personalisation to new heights. This app allows for personalisation of both the on-screen and the lock-screen as well as the manner in which notifications are displayed. This among a host of new features might just make this one of the best native support lock-screen apps in existence.
Good Lock which was available on the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge variants is now available for some of the company’s yesteryear flagship devices running on Android Marshmallow; namely, the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy S6 Active, and Galaxy Note5. The app was already pre-bundled, though disabled, with the Marshmallow update of these devices. The latest update not only enables the app on these devices but also adds some features that were requested by Galaxy S7 and S7 edge users.
App Tray
The app tray was a feature that older models of Galaxy phone users are familiar with. With the re-introduction of the App Tray, Samsung has allowed for more apps to be displayed, while also increasing the functionality of the apps, -i.e. they can be opened in split-view right from launch.
Lockscreen Widget
Google has completely ditched Lockscreen Widgets in Marshmallow and while Samsung initially followed suit, the company is bringing them back with its Good Lock app. For those who are unfamiliar with this option, it allows you to place widgets on the lock screen. This allows more information to be displayed at your fingertips.
Notifications
You can either address the notifications immediately, save them for later, or add a reminder to them. Furthermore, you can also categorize the notifications that appear.
Routine
The new feature called Routine lets you customize your lock screen layout, your App Tray, Lockscreen Widget, background colors, and a clock so your Galaxy device looks just the way you want when you want. Based around a timer, this feature lets you set different options based on your environment.
Recents
Recent apps now no longer have a Cards-like UI, but now show a thumbnail for all the running apps. However, this cleaner look allows one to navigate between open apps with greater ease. It also allows for apps to be opened in split-view if they allow. All this allows for faster transitions.
Effects
This nifty feature lets you add animations to the lock screen and adjust your wallpaper. The animations include effects such as Popping colors, Lensflare and Blind.
Quick Settings
It allows faster access to settings while on the notification panel. This allows you to customize the look of the smartphone much more easily.
Samsung is currently promising bi-weekly updates to Good Lock in a bid to connect with customers and provide features based on feedback. This is in line with their new corporate strategy which puts a heavy focus on customer feedback.
To get the Good Lock app, go to the Galaxy App Store on your Samsung device. Currently, though, this app is only available for devices in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Singapore, and Korea.
Do you feel that the Good Lock app is going to increase productivity and customization or do you feel that it is still missing features that are more pragmatic? Let us know in the comments!
