Samsung today launched the 2016 variants of the Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7 in India. The company’s latest mid-range handsets sport a metallic body with a diamond cut metal frame. Unlike the honor 5x and Redmi Note 3 though, the Galaxy J5 and J7 don’t feature a unibody design made of metal.
Samsung had launched the Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7 in China towards the end of March, and recently, the company launched the handsets in South Korea.
The Galaxy J5 is the lower-end of the two handsets here. It is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 410 chipset clocked at 1.2GHz, an Adreno 405 GPU, 16GB of onboard storage, and 2GB RAM. It comes with a 5.2-inch 720p Super AMOLED display. The Galaxy J7, on the other hand, comes with a 5.5-inch 720p Super AMOLED display, and is powered by an Octa core Exynos processor clocked at 1.6GHz. Like the J5, the J7 also comes with 16GB of internal storage and 2GB RAM.
Both phones feature dual-SIM connectivity, 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, microSD card slot, and a13MP rear shooter with an f/1.9 aperture and LED flash. The 5MP shooter in the front features a wide-angle 120-degree lens and is accompanied with an LED flash. The J5 comes with a 3100mAh battery, while the Galaxy J7 comes with a 3300mAh battery.
The most notable exclusion from the spec sheet of both handsets is the lack of a fingerprint scanner, which is available in almost every other handset available in this price range. Nonetheless, the camera specs of the Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7 (2016) are vastly superior than the competition.
Both phones run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and feature an Ultra Data Saving Mode, S Bike mode, and many other features targeted specifically towards the Indian market.
The Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7 go on sale in India starting from tonight exclusively on Flipkart. They will be available in three colors: Radiant Gold, Midnight Pearl, and Pearl White. The Galaxy J5 has been priced at Rs. 13,990, while the Galaxy J7 is priced at Rs. 15,990.
