For students in South Korea preparing, and taking, the national college entrance exam, or suneung, a new smartphone from Samsung might help them focus on their studies.
Samsung has just launched a brand new phone that is designed specifically for students in South Korea, one that can’t connect to the internet. The new handset is equipped with a 5-inch QHD AMOLED display, a 1.4GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, and a 2600mAh battery, along with an 8MP camera on the back and a 5MP front-facing camera.
It is available in gold and black, and it will retail for 200,000 won, or about $190.
The low-end device has an LTE modem inside, but it is basically there to handle text messages and phone calls. Otherwise, the internet is blocked off entirely from the J2 Pro. It doesn’t even feature Wi-Fi. It is equipped with a DioDic4 English dictionary app, along with apps for the calendar, calculator, and an FM radio.
This is a bare bones handset designed for students and students only.
One final element: Samsung is also hosting a promotion that sees students who finish the 2019 or 2010 suneung able to trade in the J2 Pro towards a Galaxy S, Note, or A-series smartphone. The price of the J2 Pro will also be applied towards the cost of the new smartphone, helping make it a bit more affordable for a recent graduate.
