Samsung announced something called “HomeSync” last month. Rather than try to find the word word to describe what it is, I’ll just tell you about what it does. First, it runs Android, so you can install your favorite apps and run them on your large HDTV at home. Second, it has a one terabyte harddrive inside, which Samsung pitches as a way to store your photos, videos, and other files. And finally third, it has a screen mirroring function, so think of Apple’s AirPlay, but for Samsung devices.

The South Korean handset maker uploaded a 13 minute video tour of the device to their YouTube channel this morning, and after watching it I can safely say that this is a product that will have limited appeal. Pricing hasn’t been announced, but the harddrive in there isn’t going to be cheap, and neither will the dual core 1.7 GHz processor and 1 GB of RAM.

Sure, if you want an easy way to play your movies, then you could pick this up, or you could simply buy a cable that outputs HDMI from your smartphone. More and more televisions will get Miracast support anyway at some point in the future, so the need for that cable will disappear as well.
