Samsung has never shied away from mocking Apple for the lack of various features on its latest iPhone. But with its latest ‘Growing Up’ Galaxy ad, the company might just have outdone itself. The 1-minute advert shows the smartphone journey of a young guy starting from 2007 all the way until 2017.
Over the next ten years, the guy keeps using different iPhones which are behind Samsung’s Galaxy devices used by his girlfriend in terms of features like wireless charging, a big screen, S-Pen, lack of waterproofing, 3.5mm headphone jack, and a beautiful OLED display. While his girlfriend enjoyed all these features on her latest Galaxy device, the protagonist’s latest iPhone for that time always lacked these features.

While the iPhone 8 and iPhone X pack wireless charging, OLED display (for the X), and IP67 water-resistance, they still lack a lot of other features that have been present on Samsung’s flagship Galaxy devices for quite a while. This includes a microSD card slot, 3.5mm headphone jack, S Pen, and more.
The best part about the ad, however, is how Samsung has taken a jibe at the iPhone X notch. Towards the end of the ad, the protagonist is shown walking away from a person who is standing in a queue for the iPhone X. That person had a notch-like hairstyle similar to the notch on the iPhone X. In the end, Samsung highlights the Galaxy Note 8 which outclasses Apple’s latest iPhones in quite a few aspects.
Kudos to Samsung’s marketing team for this ad. Well done!
