Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy Note 7, and, along with it, also made some announcements regarding the Gear VR — the company’s virtual reality headset.
The updated headset has a primary focus on a general redesign from the past iteration of the headset. First and foremost, the Gear VR is no longer white, which will cut down on reflections near the lenses in the headset. The new design features a blue and black design.
Another major change is the new interchangeable plugs. The Galaxy Note 7 features a USB Type-C port, which means the Gear VR has to support that option, which it does. Specifically, the device features swappable plugs, both USB-C and Micro-USB for older Samsung-branded devices, which means the new Gear VR supports both the current Galaxy Note 7 and older devices.
A few other changes include the trackpad on the right side of the headset, which is now smoother, and should be easier to utilize. On top of that, there’s finally a dedicated, physical Home button. Samsung has made changes to the straps on the VR headset as well, making them longer, with more options for fitting, which should make the whole thing even more comfortable to put on a user’s face for long periods of time.
