After quite a few leaks, Samsung has taken the wraps off its latest tablet with a gigantic 18.4-inch screen: the Galaxy View. With such a huge screen size though, I am not sure if calling the Galaxy View a tablet will be correct.
Despite coming with a huge screen, the Galaxy View packs in modest specs. Besides the 18.4-inch Full HD resolution LCD display, the tablet has a 1.6GHz quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, and 32/64GB of internal storage. It also features a microSD card slot, LTE connectivity (optional), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, 4W stereo speakers, and a 2.1MP front camera. The built-in 5,700mAh battery ensures that the Galaxy View can playback videos for up to 8 hours.
Thanks to the gigantic screen, the Galaxy View weighs in at a hefty 2.65kg, with dimensions of 451.8 x 275.8 x 11.9 mm. To make the tablet easier to carry around and use, there is a kickstand-cum-hinge at the rear of the tablet.
On the software front, the Galaxy View runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with a “video-centric interface” that will provide you with quick access to Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, and other popular media consumption services.
Samsung did not provide any details about the pricing and availability of the Galaxy View, but if leaks are anything to go by, the price of the tablet will start from $599.
