Ask any tech journalist which Samsung device made them start paying attention to the South Korean handset maker, and you’ll universally get the same answer: The Galaxy S II. When it was launched a little over two and a half years ago, it had everything but the kitchen sink inside. It’s also aged pretty well, all things considered. While there would be some friction in using a Galaxy S II today, I’d say it fits the needs of a majority of users.

The thing is, people don’t want to be seen with ancient equipment. How are you supposed to prove to someone you’re not poor if you’re walking around with a phone that’s going to turn three years old next February? Easy, you change what it looks like. And that’s pretty much the Galaxy Trend 3, which has just launched in China.

You’re looking at a 4.3 inch 800 x 480 pixel resolution screen, 1.2 GHz processor, and while I can’t find the specs of the camera, I’m going to assume it’s at least 5 megapixels. Best of all, the phone runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, so you’re not stuck on some ancient release.

Will the Trend 3 come to other countries? I certainly hope so. The Trend 2 is proving to be quite popular in Europe, which is why I believe the Trend 3 will eventually cross the pond.
