At this point, thanks to various leaks and renders, we already know a fair bit about the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. Samsung’s CEO has also confirmed that it would be unveiling the handset at MWC 2018 in Barcelona next month.
Perhaps the only thing that was unknown at this point was the release date of the handset. But as it usually happens in the world of smartphone nowadays, even that has leaked. As per @evleaks who was provided the information by a “C-level executive at a major casemaker,” the Galaxy S9 will be unveiled on February 26, with pre-orders starting from March 1. The handset will then make its way to the market on March 16 in key regions across the world.
According to a C-level executive at a major casemaker, the go-to-market schedule for Galaxy S9 / S9+ is as follows:
Launch – 2/26
Pre-orders – 3/1
Ships/releases – 3/16— Evan Blass (@evleaks) January 16, 2018
With a late-February unveiling at MWC 2018, the Galaxy S9 going on sale by mid-March fits perfectly with Samsung’s release timeline over the previous years. There’s no word on the pricing of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus but rumors do suggest that they will be Samsung’s most expensive flagship Galaxy S handsets ever.
The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus will feature largely the same design as their predecessor. However, they will sport some major internal changes for better performance. Samsung will also include a dual-camera setup on the bigger Galaxy S9 Plus, with the smaller Galaxy S9 having to do with only one camera at the rear. A leaked picture of the retail box of the Galaxy S9 confirms that it will come with a 12MP rear shooter with a variable aperture. This would be the first time that a smartphone would feature a camera with a variable aperture.
Are you looking forward to the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ unveiling from Samsung in February?
