Samsung has just launched the Galaxy S8, but rumors about the company’s next year flagship — the Galaxy S9 — have already started making their way to the internet. As per a new report originating from Korea, Samsung has started development early on the Galaxy S9.
The Korean company has codenamed the Galaxy S9 as Project Start, with the Galaxy S9 Plus being known as Star 2 internally. Contrary to beliefs and rumors, the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus will not be foldable smartphones.
Interestingly, Samsung is also looking at an accelerated development and production cycle for the Galaxy S9. It’s likely that with an accelerated production schedule, the company is looking to ensure that it has enough time in its hand for a detailed QA process. With an accelerated development timeframe, its possible that we will see Samsung unveil the Galaxy S9 at MWC 2018 next year.
The Galaxy S9 is still almost a year away from its launch and since its still in early stages of development, rumors surrounding the handset should be taken with a pinch of salt. It’s also unclear as to what all features the handset will pack, though the usual improvements like a faster processor, better camera and Infinity Display are to be expected.
For now though, Samsung’s focus is likely on its next flagship phablet — the Galaxy Note 8. With the Galaxy S8 doing exceedingly well, Samsung needs to make sure that the Galaxy Note 8 is also an impressive handset which is able to hold its own against the iPhone 8 which is launching later this year with a bezel-less design.
