Samsung has confirmed to Reuters that it will not be launching the Galaxy S8 at MWC in Barcelona this year as per the company’s mobile chief Koh Dong-jin. Samsung has usually unveiled its flagship Galaxy S handset at MWC for the last few years, but the company has decided to defer the launch of the handset this year.
Samsung’s mobile chief Koh Dong-jin, however, did not provide any timeframe as to when the handset would be unveiled by the Korean company. Rumors suggest Samsung holding a special event for the Galaxy S8 unveiling in April, with the handset going on sale soon after.
It is likely that Samsung is delaying the launch of the Galaxy S8 to ensure that it passes through its rigorous new quality control, including an 8-point battery check.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to ship with an all-display design featuring minimal bezels. The handset will be powered by the company’s own Exynos 8895 chipset, with some US variants making use of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 chipset. It will also come with Samsung’s own virtual assistant that will take on the likes of Google Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa.
