Following a strong consumer interest and early pre-order numbers, the total pre-orders of Samsung’s flagship handsets — the Galaxy S8 and S8+ — have topped 1 million units in the company’s home country.
This is a new record as no other smartphone in the country had previously managed to receive more than a million pre-orders before its launch. The Galaxy S8 and S8+ will be going on sale in Korea from Wednesday, with the devices making their way to the US customers from Friday.
South Korea is not the only place where Samsung has received strong pre-orders for the Galaxy S8. In the US also, the company has received strong pre-orders for the handsets, with the larger Galaxy S8+ being particularly popular among consumers.
Samsung had already anticipated the high demand for the Galaxy S8, but it looks like the strong consumer interest and pre-order numbers are higher than the company’s imagination as well. Samsung expects to sell around 50-60 million Galaxy S8 units this year, which is far higher than what the company managed to achieve with its successful Galaxy S7 and S7 edge last year. This is particularly impressive considering the Galaxy S8 and S8+ are Samsung’s first flagship handsets to launch after the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 from last year.
