Samsung’s US arm has issued a statement stating that the pre-orders of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ in the US have outpaced those of the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge “with strong double digit growth.”

Interestingly, the statement also confirms that more consumers are preferring the larger Galaxy S8+, with the Midnight Black color being the preferred choice for a majority of consumers.

Considering that the Galaxy S8 comes with a large 5.8-inch QHD+ screen, it is surprising to see consumers opt for the even larger 6.2-inch QHD+ Galaxy S8+. While the bezel-less design of the Galaxy S8+ does help it fit such a large screen in a manageable frame, the device is still bigger than the likes of the Nexus 6P and Nexus 6.

In Samsung’s home market, Korea, the Galaxy S8 has already received pre-orders of over 550,000 units within just two days of pre-orders going live. The strong consumer interest in Samsung’s latest flagships come despite the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco from last year.

The Galaxy S8 and S8+ will continue to be on pre-order in most regions of the world for the rest of this week, with the handsets first hitting the retail market in Korea on April 18 followed by the US on April 21.
