Thanks to the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, Samsung is reportedly considering on launching the Galaxy S8 next year ahead of schedule. The company had already launched the Galaxy S7 a month earlier than usual this year, which worked in its favor.
The company tried implementing the same thing with the Galaxy Note 7, but as the exploding batteries inside the phone are anything to go by, the plan has misfired badly for the company. Nonetheless, as per SamMobile’s sources, Samsung has internally codenamed the two variants of the Galaxy S8 as “Dream” and “Dream2.”
The phones carry the model number G950 and G955. Considering that the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge bear the model number G930 and G935, the two variants of S8 should have the model number G940. However, in South Korea, number 4 is considering to be associated with bad luck. This is so widely believed in the country that hospitals and public buildings have denoted the 4th floor with the alphabet F.
Samsung did something similar this year with its Note lineup. The company skipped ‘6’ in favor of the lucky number ‘7’ for Note 7 whilst also using this move to realign its product lineup and to avoid confusion among customers. The plan, however, has backfired for the company with exploding Note 7 units across the world serving a testimony to that.
Samsung usually unveils its new flagship Galaxy S handset at MWC every year. However, if the company plans on launching the Galaxy S8 early next year, we can see the company hold a separate event in early February.
