The folks over at SamMobile have discovered that Samsung has once again turned to Sony for providing the imaging sensors on its flagship handsets. Samsung also makes its own image sensors and the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge were rumored to use the company’s new BRITCELL technology sensors, but that is not the case. 

Instead, Samsung seems to be using a Sony IMX260 sensor that features a 12.2MP sensor with large 1.4u pixels. No public information is known about this particular sensor, so it is likely that Samsung ordered Sony to create custom sensors for it. Samsung has already revealed that the rear camera on the Galaxy S7 features a large f/1.7 aperture and OIS, which when combined with the large 1.4u pixels should make the Galaxy S7’s camera a low-light prowess.

Additionally, Samsung has also used a custom audio chip on the Galaxy S7 dubbed Lucky CS47L91 Sound. The exact purpose of this chip remains unclear, but it looks like this is a custom DAC that Samsung has built to deliver superior audio quality with the S7 and S7 edge.

With the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge going on sale in most markets by March 11, expect more nitty gritty details about the handset to trickle down over this week and next.
