Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+

Besides the Galaxy Note 5, Samsung also unveiled the Galaxy S6 edge+ at its Unpacked Galaxy event today. The handset, in a nutshell, is a bigger variant of the Galaxy S6 edge with an improved version of TouchWiz that takes better advantage of the curved screen.

The design of the Galaxy S6 edge+ is exactly the same as the Galaxy S6 edge, which the company had revealed at MWC this year. The only difference is that the dimensions of the device have grown in size to accommodate the larger 5.7-inch dual edge display.

Internally, the Galaxy S6 edge+ is exactly the same as the Galaxy S6 edge and features an Exynos 7420 chipset, 4GB LPDDR4 RAM, 32/64GB of UFS 2.0 storage, and a 3,000mAh battery. Other key specs of the device include LTE Cat. 9 network support, a touch-based fingerprint sensor, Adaptive fast charging, and wireless fast charging. Like on the Galaxy Note 5, the camera setup on the Galaxy S6 edge+ is also similar to its smaller dual edge sibling. This means that the rear of the handset houses a 16MP f/1.9 aperture with OIS, while the front sports a 5MP wide-angle front facing camera.

On the software front, the Galaxy S6 edge+ is running on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with the company’s new lighter version of TouchWiz. The Korean company has updated the software with some new features and has made the “people edge” accessible from anywhere in the OS, even while running other apps. There is also a new “app edge” which can be accessed by swiping over the “people edge” that allows you to quickly access your favorite set of apps. Additionally, Samsung has also included an option on the Galaxy S6 edge+ that will allow users to broadcast live on YouTube.

The Galaxy S6 edge+ will be available in the United States on all the four major carriers from August 21.
