Samsung has gone ahead and made the ‘mini’ Galaxy S5 official today. The handset had already leaked in some high resolution pictures and even compared to its bigger brother, confirming its existence and imminent launch.

Externally, the Galaxy S5 mini looks like a scaled down Galaxy S5 with the same design language and an IP67 certification. Other common features it shares with its bigger brethren includes a swipe based fingerprint scanner integrated into the home button in the front and a heart rate monitor at the back.

Apart from the above, the Galaxy S5 mini sports a run-of-the-mill specs for a mid-range handset including a quad-core 1.4GHz processor, 1.5GB of RAM, an 8MP shooter at the back, a 2.1MP snapper in the front, 16GB internal storage, a microSD card slot and LTE connectivity.

Thankfully, the handset will feature most of the software features seen on the Galaxy S5 including the Ultra Power Saving mode, Kids mode and Private mode, and will be running on Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box. The 2100mAh battery should be enough to power the phone through a day, but in case its not, you can always replace it with another one since its removable.

The Galaxy S5 mini will be available in Charcoal Black, Shimmery White, Electric Blue and Copper Gold when it hits the shelves sometime early this month. The global rollout is expected to begin sometime from mid-July. Samsung’s press release does not mention anything about the price of the device, but the suggested retail price of the device is expected to be just below EUR 500.
