Samsung today announced the retail availability of the Galaxy Note Edge through KDDI and NTT DoCoMo in Japan. The unique phablet is already up for pre-order in the country and will be available by the end of October.
Surprisingly, Japan is the first market where Samsung has put the Galaxy Note Edge for sale. Traditionally, the company has always released its product first in its home market — South Korea.
“We are thrilled to introduce the Galaxy Note Edge to Japanese consumers for the first time in the world,” said Tomonori Miwa, Sales Director of Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics Japan. “Samsung has demonstrated its leadership in the technology industry by pioneering numerous innovations, as evidenced in the Galaxy Note Edge. I believe the Galaxy Note Edge will meet the aesthetics of the most sophisticated Japanese consumers.”
The Galaxy Note Edge internals are similar to the Galaxy Note 4 but it comes with a unique Edge screen on its right side that can be used independently of the primary 5.5-inch screen.
Samsung had earlier confirmed that the Galaxy Note Edge is an experimental device and will only be available in limited quantities in selected markets. The phablet, however, will be available on all the four major carriers in the United States later this year.
