Galaxy Note 8 render

In just over a week from now, Samsung will be unveiling the Galaxy Note 8 at an event in New York. Among other things, the Galaxy Note 8 will be Samsung’s first device to feature a dual camera setup at its rear.

So far, rumors have pointed to Samsung offering dual 12MP sensors on the back of the Note 8, with the secondary sensor featuring a telephoto lens for 2x optical zoom. Now, a report from ET News sheds some more light on the camera setup of the Note 8.

The Galaxy Note 8’s primary shooter will have a 12MP resolution, while the secondary telephoto lens will feature a 13MP sensor. They both will feature OIS, with the primary sensor featuring an f/1.7 aperture. Apart from offering 2x optical zoom, the dual camera setup on the Galaxy Note 8 will also be able to sense depth thereby offering a Portrait mode similar to that of the iPhone 7 Plus. However, it remains to be seen if Samsung’s implementation will be as good as Apple or not.

The report also details that Samsung plans on bringing dual-camera setup to its mid-range devices like the Galaxy A series as well from 2018.

Additionally, it states that while Samsung had previously rushed to implement new technologies on its devices, it has changed its strategy in recent times. So, while Apple, Huawei, LG and other OEMs have already released phones with a dual-camera setup, Samsung decided to take its own time and wait for the technology to mature and implement it properly instead of rushing like before.

Are you looking forward to the Galaxy Note 8 and its dual camera setup? Remember that less than a month after the Note 8 launches, Apple would have also launched the iPhone 8. So the Note 8’s camera will be competing with the iPhone 8 and not with the iPhone 7 Plus.
