Samsung has officially recalled all the Galaxy Note 7 units it has sold worldwide in fear of the battery inside the handset exploding. In its announcement, the company said that it has so far only received reports of only 24 Galaxy Note 7 units exploding around the world.
Until Samsung manages to replace all Galaxy Note 7 units it has sold, it is likely that we will see hear reports of Note 7 exploding every once in a few days. Today’s explosion report comes from Australia, which as per Samsung is the first case from the continent about the Note 7 exploding.
The owner of the Note 7, Crushader, details in his Reddit post that the handset exploded while he was on a business trip in Perth and Brisbane. The handset exploded in his hotel room charring the bed sheet and carpet and also managed to burn one of his fingers.
The owner has already contacted Samsung about this who have provided him with a loaner device — a Galaxy J1 — while they secure a replacement Note 7 unit for him. The charred bed sheet and other damages to the hotel room led to the hotel raising a bill of over $1,800AUD, which Samsung has promised to take care of.
Crushader had already filed an application with Samsung when they had announced the replacement program on Friday — just 3 days before his phone exploded.
If you have not already filed for a replacement Galaxy Note 7 yet, you should. The phone poses a serious health risk to anyone who is using it, and with Samsung offering free replacements, it makes little sense to not get the phone replaced.
