At this point, it is already known that Samsung is working on a Galaxy S6 edge Plus alongside the Galaxy Note 5. Both devices are expected to be unveiled by Samsung at IFA in September this year.
While leaks have given us a good idea of what to expect from both handsets, certain aspects of the devices still remain a mystery. The folks over at SamMobile have now received more information about the Galaxy S6 edge Plus and the Galaxy Note 5 that corroborate previous rumors and leaks.
Both these devices from Samsung will come with a 5.7-inch Super-AMOLED Quad HD display, with only the Galaxy S6 edge Plus coming with a dual-edge curved display. The devices will also feature glass blacks akin to the Galaxy S6, which likely hints at the lack of a removable battery and microSD card slots on them.
As for the specs, the Galaxy Note 5 — codenamed ‘Project Noble’ — will likely come with an Exynos 7422 chipset. While similar to the Exynos 7420 chipset found inside the Galaxy S6, the latter will feature an integrated modem, GPU, RAM and CPU on a single die, which should lead to better power efficiency. The source reveals that Samsung was also testing a 4K display and an Exynos 7430 chipset for the Galaxy Note 5, but decided to settle for the Quad HD + Exynos 7422 combination.
On the other hand, the Galaxy S6 edge Plus will come with a Snapdragon 808 processor, 3GB RAM, a 16MP camera with OIS, 32GB storage space, and a 3,000mAh battery.
The lack of a removable battery and a microSD card slot might be a serious deal breaker for many consumers who are potentially interested in the Galaxy Note 5. While Samsung’s internal storage is significantly faster than even the fastest microSD cards available out there, most consumers are willing to sacrifice a bit of speed in favor of a cheaper way to expand the storage space on their handset.
