Samsung today launched its newest addition to the Galaxy J line-up in India: the Galaxy J2. The handset had leaked in pictures earlier this week with its Smart Glow notification ring at the rear.
The budget handset features a 4.7-inch 720p Super AMOLED display. Inside the J2 is a quad-core Spectrum processor, 2GB RAM, 8GB storage space, and a microSD card slot. The rear of the handset sports an 8MP sensor with an LED flash, while the front houses a 5MP selfie shooter. The rear camera is surrounded by a Smart Glow notification ring that can be customised to a user’s liking for individual notifications.
Other specs of the handset include a 2600mAh battery, dual-SIM connectivity, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, and 4G with VoLTE support,. The Galaxy J2 runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Samsung’s own TouchWiz UI on top of it. During the launch event, Samsung boasted about the new Turbo Speed technology feature in the handset that helps reduce app loading times.
The Galaxy J2 will be available through both online and offline channels in India from July 10th. It has been priced at Rs. 9,750 and will come with a double data offer for six months for Airtel subscribers.
Compared to the likes of other budget handsets available in India like the LeEco Le 2, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, and the Honor 5c, the Galaxy J2 feels outdated and underpowered. Sure, it is cheaper than them by a couple of grands, but the compromises made to reach that price point are going to greatly affect the usability of the phone.
