Following reports of display units of Galaxy Fold breaking in the hands of reviewers, Samsung has seemingly decided to postpone the launch of its foldable smartphone in China. While Samsung had clearly mentioned it won’t be delaying the launch of the Galaxy Fold due to the display issues, its statement was only applicable for the United States.

The company has canceled the Galaxy Fold launch event in China. While the company is blaming the cancelation on an issue with the venue, it has not provided any new date as to when the event will be held.

It is possible that Samsung has simply canceled the Galaxy Fold’s launch event in China until the first batch of Galaxy Fold units makes its way to customers in the United States. The Korean company just wants to make sure the retail units of the Galaxy Fold do not have the same issue of the display breaking as the ones faced by reviewers.

Samsung’s reasoning of the event location being an issue is false since the company has also canceled two other local Galaxy Fold activities in China. It is clear that Samsung is postponing the launch of the Fold due to the reliability issues.

Launching the Galaxy Fold in China with an extremely fragile screen can spell trouble for Samsung. If Chinese consumers end up facing the same issue with the display of their Galaxy Fold as reviewers in the United States, it would greatly damage the company’s reputation in China and it would face a backlash there. Thus, given the situation, it does make sense for Samsung to delay the Galaxy Fold launch in China until it is able to resolve the reliability issues with its foldable phone’s display for good.

Update: Unsurprisingly, Samsung has delayed the launch of the Galaxy Fold in the United States to at least until next month. There has been no official word from the company about this delay yet but given that the smartphone was expected to ship this Friday, it should issue a statement soon.
