Koh Dong-jin, head of Samsung’s mobile communication business, remarked at the launch of the Galaxy Note 7 earlier this week that the Korean company expects its sales to exceed those of its predecessor.
The executive, however, did not provide any public sales figure or target. Considering that Samsung launched the Galaxy Note 5 in Europe more than 4 months after its unveiling in the United States, it will not be surprising to see the Note 7 surpass its predecessor in terms of sales. Plus, the lack of a microSD card on the Note 5 did not particularly go well with consumers last year — a feature which the company has reintroduced on the Note 7 this year. With the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge doing extremely well for the company, it has high expectations from the Galaxy Note 7 as well.
A Samsung spokesman confirmed remarks made by Koh Dong-jin, head of the firm’s mobile communications business, during a press conference with South Korean reporters in New York on Wednesday following the firm’s unveiling of the new phone.
The Galaxy Note 7 might look similar to the Note 5 at first glance, but it is significantly better than it in every way. The handset features a more ergonomic design, a slightly curved AMOLED display that makes it smaller despite having the same 5.7-inch screen, and an IP68 certification ensures that the handset is immune to dust and water. The handset also comes with an iris scanner that can be used to unlocking the device, verifying Samsung Pay transactions, and more.
The Galaxy Note 7 is already up for pre-order across all major carriers in the United States, with its European pre-orders starting from some time later this month.
